The BCMBR was formed in 1990 from an idea developed by Graham Loney and David Taylor. As business partners and friends they had become deeply involved in the restoration of ChrisCraft and Rivas as a hobby and this was a natural development. They identified that a classic motor boat rally would be a worthwhile development and were introduced to the Windermere Steamboat Museum and the Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club. A first meeting took place at the Windermere Steamboat Museum and a committee was formed which runs the rally.
Unfortunately Graham Loney died in 2009 after having been Chairman for many years and having strongly driven the rally forward since its inception. Graham Loney's son, Chris Loney, who grew up amongst classic motor boats and has carried on his fathers interest and drive is now Chairman of the Rally committee, supported by Chris Barker (Secretary and Treasurer) and an active locally based committee.
From the first rally in 1990 the BCMBR has been held annually at the Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club and until the closure of the Steamboat Museum in 2006 for redevelopment it always visited the Museum during the rally weekend
